Alconbury School Uniform Policy
We would like all children attending our school to follow our school uniform policy.
Uniform can be purchased from our online shop at: www.yourschooluniform.com. The non-loged items can also be purchased at other retail outlets providing they are in keeping with school colours.
- Our red sweatshirt and red cardigan are the key elements to our school uniform.
We ask children to wear:
- Red sweatshirts or cardigans embroidered with our school logo
- Collared polo shirts in white or red, prefereably with embroidered school logo, otherwise a white buttoned shirt or blouse or a collared plain polo shirt in red or white
Girls:
- Skirts, pinafore dresses or trousers in black or grey
- Red & white checked or striped summer dresses in warm weather
- Socks or tights should be single coloured in white, red, black or grey
Boys:
- Trousers or 'school' shorts in black or grey
- Socks for boys should be single coloured in black or grey
- Sturdy school shoes and sandals in black or red are encouraged. Knee length or ankle boots are discouraged as they are often difficult for the children to sit cross-legged on the floor and are not in character with the school uniform image.
- In a bid to promote healthy feet, the wearing of trainers during the day is discouraged.
- Long hair should be tied back, or preferably plaited. This not only helps prevent the spread of head lice, but it is smarter and more practical for the school day. Extreme 'gelling' is to be discouraged.
We are keen to promote a smart image and discourage fashion styling or alternative style shirts, jumpers, cardigans or fancy coloured hair accessories, especially if they are non-school colours.
We do reserve the right to insist that what we judge to be inappropriate clothing, or any extreme fashion styling, is not worn in school. Football kit/ sportswear is for PE and games only and NOT for day wear.
Clothing for PE, Dance or Drama
Indoors: All work in the hall is performed barefoot. Long hair must be tied back for apparatus, gym or swimming.
- Reception Class: Experience proves that young children do best if top clothing is removed and physical activities are carried out in vest and underpants. Black shorts and plain white T shirt can be worn.
- Years 1-6: Black shorts and plain white T shirt, knickers and vest or leotard.
Outdoors: Plimsolls or trainers are necessary, preferably with a change of socks. Tracksuits can be worn for warmth.
Jewellery
Children with pierced ears should wear only simple studs to school. No other type of jewellery should be worn to school unless it is part of their ethnic cultural background.
The LA advises that for safety and hygienic reasons the wearing of earrings, ear studs and other jewellery (metal or plastic) must not be worn during sporting activities, P.E., swimming or food technology lessons.
Watches are the responsibility of the child. We suggest that children do not wear watches until they are old enough to tell the time and can look after them. Please ensure any 'alarms/ bleepers' are not set for in-school time.
Thank you for helping us promote neatly presented children!
